Perfusion Imaging Evaluation

Perfusion imaging evaluation is the assessment of tissue blood flow and vascular function using medical imaging, helping clinicians identify regions with adequate, reduced, or abnormal perfusion. Depending on the modality, an injected contrast agent or radiotracer, or blood-flow-sensitive imaging signal, tracks the delivery and passage of blood through tissue, producing quantitative or qualitative maps of perfusion. In clinical practice, these measurements support evaluation of stroke, myocardial ischemia, tumors, and other conditions in which altered circulation affects tissue viability. Perfusion findings can complement structural imaging, guide treatment decisions, and help monitor response to therapy or disease progression.

A MR imaging method to study the distribution of pulmonary blood flow under a variety of physiological conditions, in this case exposure to three different inspired oxygen concentrations: hypoxia, normoxia, and hyperoxia, is described. This technique utilizes human pulmonary physiology research techniques in an MR scanning environment.

Antegrade Perfusion Model: An Ex Vivo Technique to Perfuse Isolated Mouse Heart

2025

This video describes an antegrade perfusion technique of an isolated mouse heart during which a perfusate is injected through the left ventricle, and eventually, it perfuses the entire myocardium. This method can be used to isolate cardiomyocytes from murine models and generate decellularized hearts for further downstream applications.
