Neural Development Toxicity

Neural developmental toxicity is the disruption of nervous system formation and function by exposure to harmful chemical, biological, or physical agents during sensitive stages of development. These effects can arise when an exposure alters processes such as neural progenitor proliferation, neuronal differentiation and migration, synapse formation, or programmed cell death, potentially changing brain structure and signaling. In developmental biology, researchers assess neural developmental toxicity using cellular, animal, and molecular approaches to identify altered pathways and exposure-related outcomes. The findings support hazard identification, drug and chemical safety evaluation, and understanding how early-life exposures may contribute to persistent neurodevelopmental effects.

2025

The video showcased a cell culture method for differentiating neural progenitor cells into neurons. By incubating cells in a nutrient-rich medium supplemented with growth factors, the progenitor cells matured into neurons with developed axons and dendrites. A stabilizing agent ensured cell viability and protected against oxidative damage throughout the differentiation process.
