Renal Organoid Culture

Renal organoid culture is a three-dimensional method for generating kidney-like tissues from pluripotent stem cells or renal progenitor cells, providing a model of human kidney development. In controlled culture conditions, timed combinations of signaling cues guide cells through developmental programs, while extracellular matrix support promotes organization into nephron-like structures containing features such as glomerular and tubular compartments. In developmental biology, these organoids help researchers study nephron formation, cell differentiation, and tissue patterning in a laboratory setting. They also support investigations of congenital kidney disorders, disease mechanisms, and drug responses, although incomplete maturation and limited vascularization remain important challenges for future refinement.

Three-Dimensional Culture Systems: Spheroids and Organoids

2026

Three-dimensional (3D) culture systems, including spheroids and organoids, support New Approach Methodology (NAM)-aligned research by providing more physiologically relevant models than conventional two-dimensional cell cultures. Because they more closely resemble the structure and cellular interactions of tissues and organs, these systems can provide physiologically relevant data before advancing to animal studies. Spheroids as Disease and Drug Screening Models Spheroids are generated when one...

2025

This video describes the preparation and cultivation of brain tumor organoids from single-cell suspension. Using a laminin-rich extracellular matrix as a scaffold and culture media for nutrients, cells are facilitated to multiply and self-organize within the organoid. Consequently, ex vivo organoids are generated, mimicking cellular diversity and the microenvironment of brain tumors.
