Cbf Atlas

A CBF Atlas is a reference map that describes the spatial distribution of cerebral blood flow across the brain, helping clinicians and researchers interpret regional perfusion. It typically integrates cerebral blood flow measurements, often obtained with perfusion imaging such as arterial spin labeling, into a standardized anatomical framework so values can be compared across brain regions, individuals, or patient groups. In medicine, CBF atlases support assessment of cerebrovascular function, identification of abnormal perfusion patterns, and interpretation of neurological and psychiatric disorders. They also provide a foundation for quantitative imaging, disease characterization, treatment evaluation, and development of personalized brain biomarkers.

Tissue microarrays allows for an efficient method to gain concurrent information from a multitude of tissues. Representative parts of tissues are assembled into a single paraffin block. Sections from the block are used for immunohistochemistry and analysis of protein expression patterns. Digital scanning generates corresponding images for distribution of data.

We describe the use of laser capture microdissection to obtain samples of distinct cell populations from different brain regions for gene and microRNA analysis. This technique allows the study of differential effects of traumatic brain injury in specific regions of the rat brain.

Construction and Application of Cerebral Functional Region-Based Cerebral Blood Flow Atlas Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Arterial Spin Labeling

2024

This study integrated magnetic resonance imaging- arterial spin labeling images to derive cerebral blood flow (CBF) atlas for cerebral functional regions. Comparing typical healthy and chronic cerebral ischemia CBF atlases revealed significant differences in regional CBF distributions, enabling rapid, noninvasive assessments of functional CBF to assist in diagnosis and evaluate therapeutics.
