Karina Torres-Rivero is a researcher at the Resource Recovery and Environmental Management (R2EM) investigation group in Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, and is finalizing her Ph.D. studies. Her group is focused on developing new sensors with nanoparticle surface modifications to determine heavy metal contaminants in water. Also, they are studying the use of micro and nanoparticle to remediate contaminated aquifers. Her ultimate goal is to explore the possibility of using the modified electrodes for heavy metal determination in acid mine drainage and extract all the available rich metal content to synthesize chemical and green nanoparticles within the circular economy action plan.
