She has conducted her research mainly on Mediterranean climate rivers of the world, where intermittent rivers are part of the daily landscape and have triggered many evolutionary adaptations of species. She has published more than 100 scientific papers, 20 books, and book chapters, and has participated in more than 30 national and international research projects and contracts. She is now the President of the Iberian Association of Limnology.
