Walking Pneumonia

Walking pneumonia is a mild form of pneumonia, an infection that inflames the air sacs and surrounding tissues of the lungs, while often allowing people to remain active. It commonly develops when respiratory pathogens such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae infect airway and lung cells, triggering inflammation, mucus production, and impaired gas exchange without always causing severe respiratory symptoms. Studying walking pneumonia helps biologists connect pathogen structure, transmission, host immune responses, and disease progression. Clinical investigation supports accurate diagnosis and treatment, while surveillance helps track outbreaks and distinguish this condition from other respiratory infections with similar symptoms.

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...
