Chloride Impurity Testing

Chloride impurity testing is a quality-control method used to detect and measure unwanted chloride ions in chemicals, industrial materials, and process streams, helping confirm material purity and protect equipment performance. In a common analytical approach, chloride ions react with silver nitrate to form insoluble silver chloride; the resulting turbidity or precipitate is compared with a reference standard, while instrumental methods can provide quantitative results. Engineering laboratories apply this test to raw-material verification, water and process monitoring, corrosion prevention, and compliance with specifications. Reliable chloride measurements support safe operation, reduce contamination-related failures, and improve consistency in manufacturing and materials processing.

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University The glovebox provides a straightforward means to handle air- and moisture-sensitive solids and liquids. The glovebox is what it sounds like: a box with gloves attached to one or more sides, which allows the user to perform manipulations within the glovebox under an inert atmosphere. For manipulations under inert atmospheres, chemists can choose between Schlenk or high-vacuum techniques and a glovebox. Schlenk and...

This paper details the fabrication process of a gate-tunable graphene device, decorated with Coulomb impurities for scanning tunneling microscopy studies. Mapping the spatially dependent electronic structure of graphene in the presence of charged impurities unveils the unique behavior of its relativistic charge carriers in response to a local Coulomb potential.
