Astm Sieve

An ASTM sieve is a standardized laboratory screen used to separate and measure particles by size, making it essential for characterizing the gradation of soils, aggregates, powders, and other granular materials in engineering. During sieve analysis, a representative sample passes through a stacked series of sieves with calibrated openings, usually from larger to smaller, while mechanical or manual shaking sorts particles; the mass retained on each sieve is then used to calculate size distribution. Engineers apply these results to assess material quality, control concrete and asphalt mixtures, evaluate geotechnical behavior, and verify manufacturing specifications, supporting consistent design, performance, and quality control.

Sieve Analysis and Grading Curves

2024

Sieve analysis is a method used to determine the particle size distribution of aggregate materials. This process involves the following steps: The required quantity of dried sample of aggregate is weighed. The weighed aggregates are sieved through a set of sieves with square openings arranged in descending order of aperture size, with the largest mesh on top (Column 1 of Table 1). The stack of sieves is shaken or vibrated to facilitate the sorting of particles by size. After sieving for a...

2015

Electrical Penetration Graph (EPG) is a well-established technique for studying the feeding behavior of stylet-bearing insects. Here we show a new application of EPG as a non-invasive tool for the acquisition of intracellular electrophysiology recordings of sieve elements (SEs), the cells that form the phloem vasculature in plants.
