Medical Device Prototyping

Medical device prototyping is the iterative process of designing, building, and evaluating preliminary versions of devices intended for diagnosis, monitoring, prevention, or treatment. Engineers translate clinical needs into specifications, then use methods such as computer-aided design, additive manufacturing, machining, and electronics integration to produce prototypes for functional and usability testing. Testing reveals problems in performance, ergonomics, safety, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance, guiding successive design revisions before clinical evaluation or production. In engineering, prototyping helps teams reduce development risk, communicate with clinicians and manufacturers, and create more reliable devices that better meet patient and healthcare requirements.

In this article we describe different techniques for microfluidic rapid prototyping platforms. The proposed techniques are based on ultraviolet (UV) sensitive and temperature curing epoxies, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based tubing, wire-bonding, and anisotropic adhesive films. The assembling procedures presented are developed for both one-time use devices as well as reusable microfluidic systems.

The human nervous system handles vast amounts of information by translating sensory stimuli into neural impulses, which the brain processes, creating thoughts expressed through language or stored as memories. The brain also synthesizes information from emotions and memories, which significantly influence thoughts and behaviors. This intricate process creates a comprehensive mental picture. The brain organizes this information using concepts, which are mental categories grouping linguistic data,...
