Mouse Positioning Device

A mouse positioning device is a laboratory tool that supports and stabilizes a mouse in a defined orientation, enabling controlled procedures and consistent observations in immunology and infection research. By limiting movement while maintaining access to selected anatomical regions, it helps standardize tasks such as inoculation, imaging, blood collection, and tissue examination. Consistent positioning can improve procedural precision, reduce variability between animals, and support more reliable assessment of infection progression, immune responses, and treatment effects. These devices also promote reproducible experimental workflows when studies require repeated measurements or comparisons across cohorts.

Source: Ullah, I., et.al. A Positioning Device for the Placement of Mice During Intranasal siRNA Delivery to the Central Nervous System. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates a precise intranasal administration technique for delivering neuron-targeting peptide-siRNA complexes to the mouse brain using a specialized positioning device. Anesthetized mice are secured in a head-down-and-forward position to optimize siRNA inhalation while preventing lung drainage. The targeting peptide...

Design Example: Identifying the Locations of Monuments in the Field Using Global Positioning System Device

2025

Surveyors use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to measure the precise location and elevation of points on Earth. In a recent survey, GPS receivers were used to determine the coordinates and elevations of two park monuments. The process involved careful mission planning, data collection, and correction to ensure accuracy. The survey began with mission planning to identify optimal satellite visibility and minimize Position Dilution of Precision (PDOP). A geodetic control point served as...

Generating a Mouse Model of Traumatic Brain Injury Using an Impactor Device

2025

This video demonstrates the procedure for inducing traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a mouse model. An anesthetized mouse with an exposed skull is taken to create an opening in the skull, and then a controlled cortical injury is induced using an impact device. The injury damages the brain tissue, causing impaired cognitive function and motor coordination.
