Human Hippocampus Anatomy

Human hippocampus anatomy is the study of the paired, seahorse-shaped structures in the medial temporal lobes that support memory formation and spatial cognition. Its organization includes the dentate gyrus, cornu ammonis fields, and subiculum, which form interconnected circuits that process cortical input through the trisynaptic pathway and activity-dependent synaptic plasticity. These pathways help encode experiences, distinguish locations, and consolidate information, while their distinctive connections and vulnerability to injury make hippocampal anatomy central to neuroscience research on learning, aging, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Anatomy of the Heart

2019

The human heart is made up of three layers of tissue that are surrounded by the pericardium, a membrane that protects and confines the heart. The outermost layer, closest to the pericardium, is the epicardium. The pericardial cavity separates the pericardium from the epicardium. Beneath the epicardium is the myocardium, the middle layer, and the endocardium, the innermost layer. There are four chambers of the heart: the right atrium, the right ventricle, the left atrium, and the left ventricle.

In Vitro Recording of Theta Oscillations in the Mouse Hippocampus

2025

This video demonstrates the recording of rhythmic neuronal network activity, also known as theta oscillations, in an isolated hippocampus. Electrodes are inserted into various layers and spatial positions to detect and analyze theta oscillations. This shows the unique neuronal compositions and the connectivity of the neuronal network across different layers of the hippocampus.

Anatomy of the Circulatory System

The human circulatory system consists of blood, blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart, around the body, and back to the heart, and the heart itself, which acts as a central pump. The systemic circuit supplies blood to the whole body, the coronary circuit supplies blood to the heart, and the pulmonary circuit supplies blood flow between the heart and lungs. Blood travels from the right atrium to the right ventricle of the heart through the tricuspid valve, then from the right...

Preparation of Organotypic Slice Cultures from a Rat Pup's Hippocampus

2025

This video demonstrates a method for preparing organotypic hippocampal slice cultures from the brain of a rat pup. It outlines the steps involved in the dissection of the hippocampus, slicing, and culture conditions required to promote cell viability and growth in the hippocampal slices, ultimately generating organotypic slice cultures.
