Mobility Measurement

Mobility measurement is the quantitative assessment of how an organism moves through space, providing objective information about motor function and behavior. In neuroscience, researchers measure variables such as gait speed, distance traveled, posture, balance, and limb trajectories using video tracking, motion sensors, or instrumented walkways during standardized tasks. These measurements convert movement into kinematic and behavioral data that can reveal changes in coordination, strength, sensory processing, and motor control. Mobility assessment supports studies of neural circuits, neurological disorders, injury, aging, and rehabilitation by enabling comparisons across individuals, experimental conditions, and stages of recovery.

2023

The electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) is a biochemical procedure used to elucidate binding between proteins and nucleic acids. In this assay a radiolabeled nucleic acid and test protein are mixed. Binding is determined via gel electrophoresis which separates components based on mass, charge, and conformation. This video shows the concepts of EMSA and a general procedure, including gel and protein preparation, binding, electrophoresis, and detection. Applications covered in this video...

2024

As consumers increasingly rely on smartphones and other mobile devices for browsing, communication, and shopping, mobile marketing has become essential in today's digital world. Brands must adjust their strategies to engage users where they spend most of their time, which is on mobile screens. Understanding mobile user behavior is crucial for successful mobile marketing. Mobile users typically interact with their devices briefly and frequently throughout the day. They prefer content that is...

Using a Cyclic Ion Mobility Spectrometer for Tandem Ion Mobility Experiments

2022

Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) is an interesting complement to mass spectrometry for the characterization of biomolecules, notably because it is sensitive to isomerism. This protocol describes a tandem IMS (IMS/IMS) experiment, which allows the isolation of a molecule and the generation of the mobility profiles of its fragments.
