Rpe Polarity Analysis

RPE polarity analysis is the study of how retinal pigment epithelial cells organize distinct apical and basolateral surfaces, a feature essential for maintaining retinal homeostasis and supporting photoreceptors. Researchers assess polarity by examining cell architecture, tight-junction formation, protein localization, and directional transport across the epithelium, often using imaging and molecular markers. This analysis helps clarify how RPE cells regulate nutrient delivery, waste removal, and interactions with the neural retina. It is widely used in neuroscience and vision research to evaluate cell culture models, investigate retinal diseases, and determine how genetic, environmental, or pharmacological changes disrupt epithelial function.

The human retina is composed of functionally and molecularly distinct regions, including the fovea, macula, and peripheral retina. Here, we describe a method using punch biopsies and manual removal of tissue layers from a human eye to dissect and collect these distinct retinal regions for downstream proteomic analysis.

Group Polarization

2020

Group polarization is the strengthening of an original group attitude following the discussion of views within a group (Teger & Pruitt, 1967). That is, if a group initially favors a viewpoint, after discussion the group consensus is likely a stronger endorsement of the viewpoint. Conversely, if the group was initially opposed to a viewpoint, group discussion would likely lead to stronger opposition. The phenomenon of group polarization explains many actions taken by groups that would not...

Dipole Moment of a Molecule Polar covalent bonds connect two atoms with differing electronegativities, leaving one atom with a partial positive charge (δ+) and the other atom with a partial negative charge (δ–), as the electrons are pulled toward the more electronegative atom. This separation of charge gives rise to a bond dipole moment. The magnitude of a bond dipole moment is represented by the Greek letter mu (µ) and is given by the formula shown here, where Q is the magnitude of the...

Isolation of IPE and RPE cells: A Technique to Obtain Pigmented Epithelial Cells from Isolated Porcine Eye
