Abutment Height

Abutment height is the vertical dimension of an implant abutment that extends above the implant platform to support a prosthetic restoration. In dental implant bioengineering, clinicians select this dimension by considering soft-tissue thickness, restorative space, implant position, and the need to establish a stable emergence profile; the abutment connects the osseointegrated implant to the crown while transmitting functional loads. Appropriate height can improve prosthetic fit, facilitate soft-tissue management, and help maintain cleansable contours around the restoration. Its design therefore influences biomechanics, peri-implant tissue health, esthetics, and long-term performance, making it an important variable in implant-supported prosthesis planning and research.

Multilayer microfluidic devices often involve the fabrication of master molds with complex geometries for functionality. This article presents a complete protocol for multi-step photolithography with valves and variable height features tunable to any application. As a demonstration, we fabricate a microfluidic droplet generator capable of producing hydrogel beads.

Sit-to-stand-and-walk from 120% Knee Height: A Novel Approach to Assess Dynamic Postural Control Independent of Lead-limb

Here, we present a novel protocol to measure positional stability at key events during the sit-to-stand-to-walk using the center-of-pressure to the whole-body-center-of-mass distance. This was derived from the force platform and three-dimensional motion-capture technology. The paradigm is reliable and can be utilized for the assessment of neurologically compromised individuals.

The modified Landis technique enables paired measurement of the hydraulic conductivity of individual microvessels in the mesentery of normal and genetically modified rats under control and test conditions using microperfusion techniques. It provides a convenient method to evaluate mechanisms that regulate microvessel permeability and transvascular exchange under physiological conditions.
