Summarization Robustness

Summarization robustness is the ability of an automated summarization system to produce accurate, coherent, and useful summaries when its inputs, operating conditions, or prompts vary. It is evaluated by testing how summaries respond to perturbations such as noise, paraphrasing, missing information, distribution shifts, or adversarial changes, while checking factual consistency, relevance, and readability. In engineering, robustness analysis helps identify failure modes in language models and supports the design of evaluation benchmarks, resilient pipelines, and human oversight procedures. Improving this property is essential for dependable use of summarization in technical documentation, incident reports, scientific communication, and other settings where inaccurate compression can affect decisions.

2023

Focusing involves centering a conversation on a message's critical elements or concepts. Focusing is valuable if the talk is vague or patients begin to repeat themselves. Sometimes, when patients are asked about their symptoms, they may go off-topic and try to tell their entire life story. Respectfully, the nurse should bring the conversation back into focus. This therapeutic technique can also be used when a patient brings up pertinent information during a health-related conversation. The...

Psychophysical methods such as the QUEST estimation procedure can efficiently yield robust estimates of the stimulation intensity at which nonpainful sensations transition into painful sensations. By stimulating repeatedly at the threshold intensity, the variability in rating responses can directly be attributed to perceptual classifications in subsequent analyses.
