Fecal Suspension Preparation

Fecal suspension preparation is a laboratory method for converting stool into a uniform liquid sample, enabling microorganisms, cells, antigens, nucleic acids, and other components to be examined in immunology and infection research. The process typically involves combining fecal material with a sterile buffer or other suitable medium, mechanically dispersing the sample, and removing large debris through settling, filtration, or centrifugation to produce a consistent suspension. Prepared suspensions support microbial culture, pathogen detection, antigen or antibody assays, microbiome analysis, and studies of host-microbe interactions. Consistent handling and processing are essential for reproducible measurements and safe interpretation of fecal-derived biological material.
