1064 Nm Laser

A 1064 nm laser is a near-infrared light source that delivers energy at a wavelength widely used in medical diagnosis and treatment. Its photons interact with tissue through wavelength-dependent absorption and scattering, producing controlled photothermal effects when energy is absorbed and converted into heat, while deeper penetration can support treatment below the surface. In medicine, 1064 nm systems are used in dermatology, ophthalmology, surgery, and vascular procedures, including selective treatment of pigmented or vascular targets and coagulation of tissue. Appropriate control of power, pulse duration, and exposure limits collateral damage and helps tailor outcomes to the target tissue.

Studying DNA damage repair kinetics requires a system to induce lesions at defined sub-nuclear regions. We describe a method to create localized double-stranded breaks using a laser-scanning confocal microscope equipped with a 405 nm laser and provide automated procedures to quantify the dynamics of repair factors at these lesions.
