15o-water Pet

15O-water PET is a quantitative medical imaging technique that uses oxygen-15-labeled water to measure tissue perfusion, especially regional cerebral blood flow. After intravenous administration, the freely diffusible tracer follows blood delivery through tissue, while positron decay produces annihilation photons detected by the PET scanner; dynamic tracer kinetics then estimate blood flow in specific regions. Because oxygen-15 has a very short half-life, studies can capture rapid physiological changes and repeat measurements under different conditions. This method supports research and clinical investigation of cerebrovascular disease, brain function, tumor perfusion, and treatment-related changes in blood flow.

An In Vivo PET Imaging Technique to Detect Tumors in a Murine Model Using Radiolabeled Antibodies

2025

This video demonstrates a technique involving a radioimmunoconjugate for the in vivo imaging of a tumor in a mouse model. Upon injection of the radioimmunoconjugate, the antibodies of the conjugate bind to a specific membrane antigen on the cancer cells. The radiotracer of the conjugate emits positrons that interact with neighboring electrons to produce energy, which is detected by a positron emission tomography (PET) scanner to create an image of the tumor.

Simultaneous PET/MRI Imaging During Mouse Cerebral Hypoxia-ischemia

The method presented here uses simultaneous positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In the cerebral hypoxia-ischemia model, dynamic changes in diffusion and glucose metabolism occur during and after injury. The evolving and irreproducible damage in this model necessitates simultaneous acquisition if meaningful multi-modal imaging data are to be acquired.

A method of functional imaging of mouse brown adipose tissue (BAT) is described in which cold-stimulated uptake of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in BAT is non-invasively assessed with a standardized micro-PET/CT protocol. This method is robust and sensitive to detect differences in BAT activities in mouse models.
