Arborising Vessels

Arborising vessels are branching, tree-like telangiectatic blood vessels visible on the skin surface or under dermoscopic examination, and they are an important clue in evaluating cutaneous lesions. They arise from dilated superficial vessels that follow an irregular branching pattern, often reflecting the altered vascular supply and angiogenesis associated with basal cell carcinoma. In clinical medicine, recognizing this pattern helps clinicians assess suspicious lesions alongside features such as translucency, pigmentation, ulceration, and other dermoscopic findings. Although arborising vessels can support a diagnosis, they are not conclusive on their own, so clinical context and histopathological examination may be required to guide definitive diagnosis and treatment.

We describe two methods for visualization and quantification of dendritic arborization in the hippocampus of mouse models: real-time and extended depth of field imaging. While the former method allows sophisticated topographical tracing and quantification of the extent of branching, the latter allows speedy visualization of the dendritic tree.

Source: Alexander S Rattner and Kevin Rao Li Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the phenomenon of stability of floating vessels - the ability to self-right when rolled over to the side by some external force. Careful design of hull shapes and internal mass distribution enables seagoing vessels to be stable with low drafts (submerged depth of hull), improving vessel...

This protocol focuses on quantitative analysis of neuronal dendritic arborization complexity (NDAC) in Drosophila, which can be used for studies of dendritic morphogenesis.

Operation of High-pressure Reactor Vessels

Robert M Rioux, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA The use of gases in a synthetic chemistry laboratory is essential for carrying out a variety of highly facile and atom economical transformations. Reactions such as hydrogenation, oxidation, and amination require the use of gases like hydrogen, oxygen, and ammonia. Due to the poor solubility of these gases in typical reactant solutions, high pressures are necessary to achieve a meaningful reaction rate. Not only are these gases...
