Biventricular Evaluation

Biventricular evaluation is the assessment of the right and left ventricles to determine how effectively they pump blood and respond to cardiovascular disease. Clinicians combine echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and hemodynamic data to examine ventricular size, wall motion, systolic function, pressure, and blood flow, while comparing interactions between the two chambers. This evaluation helps identify conditions such as heart failure, congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, and ventricular dysfunction that may be missed when one side is assessed alone. Comprehensive findings support diagnosis, risk stratification, treatment selection, and monitoring of recovery or disease progression.

The objective is to monitor the mitochondrial redox state of isolated hearts within the context of physiologic preload and afterload pressures. A biventricular working rabbit heart model is presented. High spatiotemporal resolution fluorescence imaging of NADH is used to monitor the mitochondrial redox state of epicardial tissue.

Evaluating the Accuracy of Snap Judgments

Source: Diego Reinero & Jay Van Bavel—New York University Social psychologists have long been interested in the way people form impressions of others. Much of this work has focused on the errors people make in judging others, such as the exaggerated influence of central traits (such as "warm" and "cold"), the insufficient weight given to the context in which others' behavior takes place, and the tendency for people to make judgments that conform to their initial expectations about another.
