Retinal Capillary Plexus

The retinal capillary plexus is a layered network of tiny blood vessels within the retina that supplies neural tissue with oxygen and nutrients while removing metabolic waste. Organized into superficial, intermediate, and deep vascular layers, it regulates local blood flow through neurovascular coupling and supports exchange across thin vessel walls, although the inner retina lacks direct circulation from the choroid. In medicine, evaluating this microvascular architecture with imaging techniques such as optical coherence tomography angiography helps identify capillary loss, nonperfusion, and abnormal remodeling. These changes provide important biomarkers for diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, glaucoma, and other diseases affecting vision.

Exposing Brachial Plexus: A Surgical Technique to Visualize Brachial Plexus in Neonatal Piglet

2025

This video describes an in vivo surgical procedure to expose the brachial plexus, a neural network that supplies cutaneous and muscular interventions to the upper limb. This surgery helps locate the plexus and eventually assess the extent of nerve injury involving the upper limb.

Isolating Immune Cells from Mouse Choroid Plexuses

This video article demonstrates the establishment of organotypic retinal wholemount cultures and a cytospin procedure for analysis of exogenously induced effects. Organotypic retinal wholemount cultures mimic the in vivo situation and significantly facilitate the accessibility of murine retinas for experimental manipulations while circumventing the disadvantages of classical murine animal models.

Capillary Electrophoresis (CE)

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is a separation technique that separates molecules in an electric field according to size and charge. CE is performed in a small glass tube called a capillary that is filled with an electrolyte solution. Analytes are separated due to differences in electrophoretic mobility, which varies with charge, solvent viscosity, and size. Traditional electrophoresis in gels is limited in the amount of voltage...
