Electrical Signal Recording

Electrical signal recording is the measurement of voltage changes produced by excitable cells, tissues, or neural circuits, providing a direct view of electrical activity in the nervous system. In neuroscience, electrodes detect intracellular or extracellular potential differences, which are amplified, filtered, and digitized to capture action potentials, synaptic activity, or coordinated oscillations over time. Researchers use methods such as patch-clamp recording, electroencephalography, and multi-electrode arrays to relate neural signals to cellular function, sensory processing, behavior, and disease. These recordings support studies of brain connectivity and dynamics while informing the development of neural interfaces, diagnostic tools, and therapies for neurological disorders.

2015

Electrical Penetration Graph (EPG) is a well-established technique for studying the feeding behavior of stylet-bearing insects. Here we show a new application of EPG as a non-invasive tool for the acquisition of intracellular electrophysiology recordings of sieve elements (SEs), the cells that form the phloem vasculature in plants.

In Vivo Recording of Intracellular Signals from a Single Neuron

This video demonstrates the recording of electrical signals from the afferent neurons in a paralyzed zebrafish larva by positioning a micropipette near the lateral line ganglion and forming a loose seal for signal capture. The extracellular solution maintains neuronal viability during this process.

Zebra II as A Novel System to Record Electrophysiological Signals in Zebrafish
