Optical Transmittance Analysis

Optical transmittance analysis is a physics-based method for determining how much light passes through a material, revealing its interaction with electromagnetic radiation. It compares transmitted intensity with incident intensity across selected wavelengths, producing a transmittance spectrum that reflects wavelength-dependent absorption, reflection, and scattering. Researchers use this analysis to characterize optical materials, thin films, coatings, filters, and biological or chemical samples, while changes in spectral features can indicate composition, thickness, defects, or electronic transitions. The method supports material identification, quality control, device development, and the study of how matter responds to light.

2023

Source: Faisal Alamgir, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA The imaging of microscopic structures of solid materials, and the analysis of the structural components imaged, is known as materialography. Often, we would like to quantify the internal three-dimensional microstructure of a material using only the structural features evidenced by an exposed two-dimensional surface. While X-ray based tomographical methods can reveal buried...

We have developed a Semi-automated Optical Heartbeat Analysis method (SOHA) for analyzing high speed optical recordings from Drosophila, zebrafish and embryonic mouse hearts. We demonstrate the application of our methodology to the analysis of heart function in fruit fly and embryonic mouse hearts.

A surgical technique for implantation of commercially available telemetry transmitters used for continuous measurement of biopotential (one-lead ECG), heart rate, core body temperature and locomotor activity in freely moving mice is shown. Recommendations and protocols for post-operative care and pain relief, improving recovery, well being and survival rate are also presented.

Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) is an emerging technology capable of imaging optical absorption contrasts in vivo with cellular resolution and sensitivity. Here, we provide a visualized instruction on the experimental protocols of OR-PAM, including system configuration, system alignment, typical in vivo experimental procedures, and functional imaging schemes.
