Solution-phase Nmr

Solution-phase NMR is a spectroscopic method that characterizes molecules dissolved in a liquid by measuring the magnetic behavior of their atomic nuclei, making it central to structural and analytical chemistry. In a strong magnetic field, nuclei such as hydrogen-1 or carbon-13 absorb radiofrequency pulses and emit signals whose chemical shifts, spin-spin couplings, and intensities reflect their local electronic environments and connectivity. Fourier transformation converts the detected time-domain signal into a spectrum that researchers interpret to identify compounds and determine molecular structure. Solution-phase NMR also supports mixture analysis, purity assessment, reaction monitoring, conformational studies, and investigations of molecular dynamics under near-native conditions.

2012

The production of hyperpolarized xenon by means of spin exchange optical pumping (SEOP) is described. This method yields a ~10000-fold enhancement of the nuclear spin polarization of Xe-129 and has applications in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. Examples of gas phase and solution state experiments are given.

Experiments on phase separated giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) frequently neglect physiological solution conditions. This work presents approaches to study the effect of high-salinity buffer on liquid-liquid phase separation in charged multicomponent GUVs as a function of trans-membrane solution asymmetry and temperature.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Henrik Sundén – Chalmers University of Technology Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a vital analysis technique for organic chemists. With the help of NMR, the work in the organic lab has been facilitated tremendously. Not only can it provide information about the structure of a molecule but also determine the content and purity of a sample. Compared with other commonly encountered techniques for organic chemists — such as thermal analysis and mass...
