Segmental Ureteral Stricture

Segmental ureteral stricture is a localized narrowing of a ureter that restricts urine flow from the kidney to the bladder and can threaten renal function if untreated. The narrowing typically results from scar formation after surgery, instrumentation, inflammation, radiation, or impaired blood supply; reduced ureteral diameter raises upstream pressure and may cause hydronephrosis, flank pain, infection, or declining kidney function. Evaluation commonly combines imaging with functional assessment to define the stricture’s location, length, and severity. Treatment may include ureteral stenting, balloon dilation, endoscopic incision, or reconstructive surgery, with the choice guided by anatomy, cause, symptoms, and renal function.

The murine model of irreversible unilateral ureteric obstruction (UUO) is presented together with the model of reversible UUO in which the ureteric obstruction is relieved by anastomosis of the severed ureter into the bladder. These models enable the study of renal inflammation and scarring as well as tissue remodeling.

Esophageal Strictures-I: Introduction

2025

Esophageal strictures involve abnormal narrowing or tightening of the esophagus. They vary in length and severity, ranging from mild constriction to complete obstruction, and are classified as benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Etiology The primary cause of esophageal strictures is long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), accounting for about 70 to 80% of adult cases. Chronic acid reflux can lead to injury and scarring of the esophageal lining, culminating in...

Urethral Stricture Induction Followed by Buccal Mucosa Graft Urethroplasty in a Rat Model

In the present protocol, a urethral stricture induction was developed in Wistar rats, followed by urethral reconstruction with a buccal mucosa graft. A retrograde urethrogram and laser Doppler assessment were performed, validating urethral reconstruction (after stricture formation) and graft placement.
