Rat Brain Lesion

A rat brain lesion is a localized area of damaged or intentionally altered neural tissue used to examine how specific brain regions contribute to behavior. Lesions can be produced through surgical, electrolytic, or chemical methods that disrupt neuronal circuits, after which researchers compare affected animals with appropriate controls using tasks that measure learning, memory, motivation, movement, or social responses. This approach links changes in behavior to brain structure and function, helping characterize neural pathways and test hypotheses in behavioral neuroscience. Careful lesion placement, verification, and control of injury-related effects are essential for interpreting results and distinguishing region-specific functions from general consequences of brain damage.

This video demonstrates a protocol for extracting microglial cells from demyelinating lesions in mouse brains using magnetic cell sorting. The protocol involves dissecting the lesioned brain tissue containing microglial cells, treating the tissue with specific enzymes to obtain a single-cell suspension, and utilizing microglial receptor-specific magnetic beads to isolate the microglial cells.

(2017)This video demonstrates the use of micro-CT imaging to visualize cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM) lesions in a mouse brain. It details the steps for sample preparation, imaging, and 3D image reconstruction to evaluate the density and location of CCM lesions in brain tissue.
