Response Inhibition Training

Response inhibition training is a behavioral intervention designed to strengthen the ability to suppress an automatic or dominant response when circumstances require restraint. It commonly uses structured tasks such as go/no-go or stop-signal paradigms, in which participants respond to frequent cues but withhold action when a specific signal appears; repeated practice, performance feedback, and increasing task demands engage inhibitory control. In behavior research, these methods help measure and shape impulse regulation, response control, and attention under competing demands. Findings can inform studies of self-regulation and conditions involving impulsive behavior, while also supporting the development of targeted cognitive and behavioral interventions.

Thermally Responsive Biopolymer-Based Inhibition of Tumor Progression in a Rat Model

2025

Begin with an anesthetized rat bearing a brain tumor composed of proliferating tumor cells.Expose the rat’s skull and create a hole to reveal the brain region with the tumor.Take a thermally responsive biopolymer fused with a cell-penetrating peptide and an inhibitor of c-myc, an oncogenic protein.Inject the biopolymer into the femoral vein of the hind limb for delivery to the brain.Apply infrared light through the skull hole to heat the tumor site, which induces biopolymer aggregation along...

Feedback Inhibition

Biochemical reactions are occurring constantly in cells, converting starting substances to different products, usually with the help of enzymes that speed the reactions. Without enzymes, it would take far too long for most reactions to occur to be useful to the cell! Since enzymes help control the rate of reactions, their activity is regulated so that appropriate amounts of starting materials, intermediate metabolites, and products are maintained in the cell. Excessive build-up or depletion of...

Here, we present a protocol to elicit Pavlovian conditioned approach behavior in rats. This procedure can be used to measure individual differences in the tendency to approach and attribute incentive salience to reward-related cues and investigate addiction vulnerability.

Training Rats to Voluntarily Dive Underwater: Investigations of the Mammalian Diving Response

Detailed instructions are provided on how to train rats to voluntarily dive underwater through a 5 m long Plexiglas maze. Because the brains of rats have been very well characterized, voluntarily diving rats may help elucidate the central pathways of the mammalian diving response.
