Coronary Sinus

The coronary sinus is the main venous channel of the heart, returning oxygen-depleted blood from the cardiac muscle to the right atrium. It forms from the union of several cardiac veins, runs along the posterior atrioventricular groove, and empties into the right atrium, completing the coronary circulation’s venous return. Its anatomy helps explain how the myocardium receives and drains its own blood supply, which differs from the circulation of the heart chambers. Understanding the coronary sinus is important in cardiovascular biology, cardiac imaging, electrophysiology, and procedures that use it to access or assess the heart’s venous system.

Direct Re-implantation of Left Coronary Artery into the Aorta in Adults with Anomalous Origin of Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery (ALCAPA)

Surgical correction of ALCAPA is highly recommended, regardless of age or the degree of intercoronary collateralization. This protocol presents a technique for the direct re-implantation of adult-type ALCAPA into the aorta to re-establish the dual-coronary perfusion. Whenever feasible, direct re-implantation is preferred to other surgical correction techniques.

Source: Richard Glickman-Simon, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, MA This video provides an overview of sinus, nose, and throat examinations. The demonstration begins with a brief overview of the anatomy of the region. The upper third of the nose is bony, and the bottom two-thirds are cartilaginous. Air entering the nares passes through the nasal vestibules and into the narrow passageway between the nasal septum...

This study presents a protocol for establishing a reproducible, minimally invasive rat model of superior sagittal sinus thrombosis induced by ferric chloride, utilizing a silk-suture method in combination with laser speckle contrast imaging and high-resolution ultrasound for evaluation.

Ultrasound Based Assessment of Coronary Artery Flow and Coronary Flow Reserve Using the Pressure Overload Model in Mice

Coronary flow reserve (CFR) is useful for assessment of myocardial oxygen demand and evaluation of cardiovascular risk. This study establishes a step-by-step transthoracic Doppler echocardiographic (TTDE) method for longitudinal monitoring of the changes in CFR, as measured from coronary artery in mice, under the experimental pressure overload of aortic banding.
