Facs Machine Parameters

FACS machine parameters are the optical, fluidic, and electronic settings used to detect, measure, and sort fluorescently labeled cells by flow cytometry. They include laser selection, detector gain, compensation, threshold, sample flow rate, and droplet or sort timing, each of which affects signal quality and population recovery. As cells pass through focused fluid and intersect laser beams, emitted light and scattered light are converted into signals; software then applies gates, while precisely timed electrical deflection directs selected droplets into collection vessels. Proper optimization supports reliable immunophenotyping, cell-cycle analysis, viability assessment, rare-cell isolation, and downstream molecular or functional studies in biology.

2016

Fibroblast behavior underlies a spectrum of clinical entities, but they remain poorly characterized, largely due to their inherent heterogeneity. Traditional fibroblast research relies upon in vitro manipulation, masking in vivo fibroblast behavior. We describe a FACS-based protocol for the isolation of mouse skin fibroblasts that does not require cell culture.

The protocol described in this paper utilizes the directional gradient histogram technique to extract the characteristics of concrete image samples under various vibration states. It employs a support vector machine for machine learning, resulting in an image recognition method with minimal training sample requirements and low computer performance demands.

AC Synchronous Machine Characterization

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Three-phase wound-rotor synchronous motors are less popular than permanent magnet rotor synchronous motors due to the brushes required for the rotor field. Synchronous generators are much more common and available in most existing power plants, as they have excellent frequency and voltage regulation. Synchronous motors have the advantage of almost 0% speed regulation due to the fact that the rotor...

AC Synchronous Machine Synchronization

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Three-phase wound-rotor synchronous generators are the main source of electrical power worldwide. They require a prime mover and an exciter in order to generate power. The prime mover can be a turbine spun by fluid (gas or liquid), thus the sources of the fluid can be water running off a dam through a long nozzle, steam from water evaporated using burned coal, etc. Most power plants including coal,...
