Fluorescent Live Cell Dye

A fluorescent live cell dye is a chemical probe that labels structures, molecules, or physiological states in living cells, enabling researchers to visualize biological activity without immediately fixing or destroying the sample. After entering a viable cell or responding to a cellular target, its fluorophore absorbs light at an excitation wavelength and emits light at a longer wavelength that microscopy systems detect. These dyes support live-cell imaging of cell morphology, organelle distribution, viability, membrane integrity, and dynamic processes over time. In biology, they help connect cellular structure with function and provide valuable readouts for developmental studies, disease research, drug evaluation, and cell-based experiments.

We described structural features of the Glia-neuromuscular synapses in a novel Inside-out tissue preparation of live fly larvae using fluorescent dyes with confocal microscopy. We labeled live neuron terminals with fluorescent primary antibodies to HRP, and also visualized the perisynaptic space with fluorescent Dextrans.
