Gene Expression Maize

Gene expression in maize is the process by which genetic information is activated and used to produce functional RNAs and proteins, shaping traits such as growth, development, and stress responses. It begins when regulatory signals control transcription of DNA into messenger RNA, followed by RNA processing, translation, and protein activity in specific tissues or conditions. Researchers measure these changes with approaches such as transcript profiling to identify genes involved in nutrient use, disease resistance, flowering, and responses to drought or temperature. Understanding expression patterns supports functional genomics, crop improvement, and the development of maize varieties with improved productivity and resilience.

2019

Overview Gene expression is the process in which DNA directs the synthesis of functional products, that is, proteins. Cells can regulate gene expression at various stages. It allows organisms to generate different cell types and enables cells to adapt to internal and external factors. Genetic Information Flows from DNA to RNA to Protein A gene is a stretch of DNA that serves as the blueprint for functional RNAs and proteins. Since DNA is made up of nucleotides and proteins consist of amino...

An Overview of Gene Expression

2023

Gene expression is the complex process where a cell uses its genetic information to make functional products. This process is regulated at multiple stages, and any misregulation could lead to diseases such as cancer. This video highlights important historical discoveries relating to gene expression, including the understanding of how distinct combinations of DNA bases encode the amino acids that make up proteins. Key questions in the field of gene expression research are explored, followed by a...
