Hair Removal Procedure

Hair removal procedures are techniques that reduce or eliminate unwanted hair by cutting, pulling, dissolving, or disabling the hair shaft or follicle. Their effects depend on hair biology: shaving cuts the shaft at the skin surface, waxing removes hair mechanically from the follicle, chemical depilatories break down keratin, and laser treatments use selective light absorption to heat pigment-rich follicles and reduce regrowth. In biology and dermatology, comparing these methods helps researchers relate follicle structure, hair-growth cycles, melanin content, and tissue response to treatment outcomes. Applications include personal care, clinical management of excess hair, and evaluation of technologies designed to improve durability while protecting surrounding skin.

Hair cells are the sensory receptors of the auditory system—they transduce mechanical sound waves into electrical energy that the nervous system can understand. Hair cells are located in the organ of Corti within the cochlea of the inner ear, between the basilar and tectorial membranes. The actual sensory receptors are called inner hair cells. The outer hair cells serve other functions, such as sound amplification in the cochlea, and are not discussed in detail here. Hair cells are named after...

Cortisol (CORT) accumulates in the growing hair shaft of humans and nonhuman primates. We describe methods for extracting and analyzing hair CORT with high precision and sensitivity. Measurement of hair CORT is particularly well-suited for assessing chronic stress over periods of weeks to months.
