Hcv Infection Imaging

HCV infection imaging refers to the use of medical imaging to assess liver changes associated with hepatitis C virus infection, supporting evaluation of disease severity and complications. Because routine imaging does not usually visualize the virus directly, ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging identify structural abnormalities, while elastography measures liver stiffness by detecting tissue deformation caused by mechanical waves. These approaches help assess fibrosis, cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and liver nodules, including possible hepatocellular carcinoma. In biology and clinical research, imaging complements virologic testing and liver function measurements, enabling noninvasive monitoring of disease progression and treatment response.

Two Methods of Heterokaryon Formation to Discover HCV Restriction Factors

2012

We describe two methods for conditional trans-complementation of hepatitis C virus (HCV) assembly and the completion of the full viral life cycle, which rely on heterokaryon formation. These techniques are suitable to screen for cell lines that express dominant restriction factors, which preclude production of infectious HCV progeny.

Multi-modality imaging is a valuable approach for studying bacterial colonization in small animal models. This protocol outlines infection of mice with bioluminescent Citrobacter rodentium and the longitudinal monitoring of bacterial colonization using composite 3D diffuse light imaging tomography with μCT imaging to create a 4D movie of C. rodentium infection.

Source: de Vries, C. R., et al., A Delayed Inoculation Model of Chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa Wound Infection. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates a bioluminescent imaging technique to monitor bacterial infection progression in a live mouse model. Pathogenic bacteria engineered with the luxABCDE reporter system emit light at the infection site, allowing visualization of metabolically active bacteria. By imaging the mouse over time, researchers can non-invasively track infection...

Using Luciferase to Image Bacterial Infections in Mice

Methods for bioluminescence imaging of bacterial infections in living animals are decribed. Pathogens are modified to express luciferase allowing optical whole body imaging of infections in live animals. Animal models can be infected with luciferase expressing pathogens and the resulting course of disease visualized in real-time by bioluminescence imaging.
