Monkey Epithelial Cells

Monkey epithelial cells are cells that form protective and functional linings in tissues such as the skin, respiratory tract, digestive system, and kidney, making them valuable models in biology and biomedical research. They are joined by cell-cell junctions, maintain tissue barriers through polarized membranes, and regulate transport, secretion, and responses to environmental signals. In culture, these cells can be examined for morphology, barrier integrity, pathogen interactions, toxic effects, and cellular signaling. Because monkeys share important physiological features with humans, monkey epithelial cell models can support comparative studies and help evaluate disease mechanisms, therapeutics, and safety before research advances to more complex systems.

We present a protocol that combines cell isolation and whole-cell patch-clamp recording to measure the electrical properties of the primary dissociated epithelial cells from the rat cauda epididymides. This protocol allows for investigation of the functional properties of primary epididymal epithelial cells to further elucidate the physiological role of the epididymis.

Isolation and Culture of Murine Tongue Epithelial Cells: A Procedure to Isolate and Culture Tongue Epithelial Cells from Mouse Model
