Morphological Recovery

Morphological recovery is the restoration of an organism’s form, structure, or tissue architecture after injury, developmental disturbance, or environmental stress, making it an important aspect of biological repair and regeneration. It occurs when coordinated signaling regulates cell proliferation, migration, differentiation, and extracellular-matrix remodeling, allowing damaged tissues to rebuild shape and organize their components. In some animals, this process can restore body structures through regeneration, whereas other organisms achieve only partial repair or compensatory remodeling. Studying morphological recovery helps researchers compare healing strategies, understand developmental mechanisms, and identify principles relevant to regenerative biology and tissue repair.

2013

Contrast enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging allows comprehensive in vivo assessment of the heart in small animal models of cardiovascular disease. Here we detail the procedures to perform CMR imaging, reconstruction and analysis using Small Animal Lock-Locker Inversion Recovery (SALLI) in rats.

Preparation of Brain Sections Using a NMDG-Based Protective Recovery Method

2025

This video describes a protocol to obtain brain slices using an N-Methyl-D-glucamine (NMDG)-based protective recovery method. A dissected brain is incubated in an aCSF with NMDG and HEPES to minimize neuronal cell death and damage during the sectioning. The section is allowed to recover in the aCSF to restore the cellular...

Bacterial and archaeal cells exhibit remarkable diversity in shape and structure, critical in their adaptability and functionality. Among bacteria, the most commonly observed shapes include cocci and bacilli. Cocci are spherical and may exist singly or in groupings such as pairs (diplococci), chains (streptococci), clusters (staphylococci), or tetrads. Bacilli, in contrast, are rod-shaped and can also occur as single cells, in pairs, or chains, depending on their environmental and genetic...

Muscle Recovery and Fatigue

2024

Muscle fatigue refers to the decline in a muscle's ability to maintain the force of contraction after prolonged activity. It primarily stems from changes within muscle fibers. Even before experiencing muscle fatigue, one may feel tired and have the urge to stop the activity. This response, known as central fatigue, occurs due to changes in the central nervous system, namely the brain and spinal cord. While there is no single mechanism that induces fatigue, it may serve as a protective response...
