Neurological Pathways

Neurological pathways are organized routes through the nervous system that carry sensory, motor, and regulatory information between the brain, spinal cord, and body, enabling coordinated responses and behavior. They work through chains of neurons in which electrical action potentials travel along axons, trigger neurotransmitter release at synapses, and activate downstream cells; excitatory and inhibitory signals shape whether information continues through a circuit. In biology, mapping these pathways helps explain reflex arcs, movement, sensation, learning, and autonomic control. It also supports research into neurological disorders by revealing how disrupted connections affect function and by identifying targets for diagnosis, rehabilitation, and treatment.

C4 Pathway and CAM

2019

Most plants use the C3 pathway for carbon fixation. However, some plants, such as sugar cane, corn, and cacti that grow in hot conditions, use alternative pathways to fix carbon and conserve energy loss due to photorespiration. Photorespiration is the process that occurs when the oxygen concentration is high. Under such conditions, the rubisco enzyme in the Calvin cycle binds O2 instead of CO2, which halts photosynthesis and consumes energy. C4 Pathway The C4 pathway is used by plants such as...

The article describes a practical method for recording horizontal eye movements with high accuracy by electro-oculogram in neurological patients, using a cup Ag-AgCl electrode with a wide plastic fringe. Stable measurement requires proper selection and fixation of electrodes, taking sufficient time for light adaptation to occur, and re-calibration as needed.
