Protein-coding Rna

Protein-coding RNA is a class of RNA molecules that carries genetic instructions for producing proteins, linking information stored in DNA to cellular structure and function. During transcription, cells copy a gene’s coding sequence into messenger RNA, which ribosomes read in three-nucleotide codons during translation; transfer RNA matches these codons with amino acids to build a polypeptide. Studying protein-coding RNA helps explain gene expression, regulation, development, and disease. Its properties also support biotechnology and medicine, including recombinant protein production, RNA-based research, and therapeutic approaches that deliver or modify specific genetic instructions.

This RNA pull-down method allows identifying the RNA targets of a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). Based on the hybridization of home-made, designed anti-sense DNA oligonucleotide probes specific to this lncRNA in an appropriately fixed tissue or cell line, it efficiently allows the capture of all RNA targets of the lncRNA.

In humans, more than 80% of the genome gets transcribed. However, only around 2% of the genome codes for proteins. The remaining part produces non-coding RNAs which includes ribosomal RNAs, transfer RNAs, telomerase RNAs, and regulatory RNAs, among other types. A large number of regulatory non-coding RNAs have been classified into two groups depending upon their length – small non-coding RNAs, such as microRNA, which are less than 200 nucleotides in length, and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)...
