Reporter Systems

Reporter systems are biological tools that convert gene activity or cellular events into measurable signals, making otherwise invisible processes easier to detect and study. Typically, a reporter gene is placed under the control of a promoter, enhancer, or other regulatory element, so its expression produces a fluorescent, luminescent, or colorimetric output when the target pathway is active. Researchers use reporter systems to monitor gene regulation, protein localization, cell signaling, and developmental processes in living cells or organisms. These tools support quantitative comparisons, high-throughput screening, and real-time analysis of biological responses in fields ranging from molecular biology to drug discovery.

In this article, we present two complementary methods to measure specific rates of translational error and mistranslation in the model mycobacterium, Mycobacterium smegmatis, using gain-of-function reporter systems. The methods can be employed to measure accurate error rates in low throughput or relative error rates in a more high-throughput setting.

Data Reporting and Recording

2023

Reporting and recording are crucial in data documentation. The timely, thorough, and accurate documentation of facts is essential when recording patient data. Failure to record findings during an assessment or interpretation of a problem will result in loss of information and make the patient document unreliable. The reader is left with general impressions if the information is not specific. A recording is documenting data of the individual's health information in a traceable, secure, and...

Cell growth rate is a regulated process and a primary determinant of cell physiology. Continuous culturing using chemostats enables extrinsic control of cell growth rate by nutrient limitation facilitating the study of molecular networks that control cell growth and how those networks evolve to optimize cell growth.

A Lentiviral Transcriptional Reporter System to Generate a Glioblastoma Stem Cell Differentiation Reporter Line

2025

This video demonstrates a technique to generate a glioblastoma stem cell reporter line to identify the differentiation of glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) into astroglia. It outlines the steps involved in seeding GSCs, transducing them with a lentivirus encoding GFP, and determining GFP reporter expression through flow cytometry.

Types of Reports I: Hand-off Report

A hand-off report, also known as a change-of-shift report, is a crucial nursing process that ensures the smooth transition of patient care responsibilities between nursing staff. Following are the key components and categories of hand-off reports: Purpose and Process: • The hand-off report is a systematic process for nurses to exchange essential patient information during shift changes, ensuring continuity of care and patient safety. • It typically occurs at the beginning and end of shifts...
