Roman Chamomile

Roman chamomile is an aromatic perennial herb, Chamaemelum nobile, in the Asteraceae family, valued for its daisy-like flower heads and biologically active essential oils. Its characteristic aroma and activity arise from specialized plant cells that synthesize volatile terpenes and other secondary metabolites, including compounds released during flowering and concentrated in the floral tissues. In biology, Roman chamomile provides a model for studying plant development, floral structure, chemical ecology, and specialized metabolism. Extracts and essential oils are also investigated in botany, pharmacognosy, and natural-products research, where their composition, environmental variation, and potential biological effects can be compared across cultivars and growing conditions.

Ionic Compounds: Formulas and Nomenclature

2020

An element composed of atoms that readily lose electrons (a metal) can react with an element composed of atoms that readily gain electrons (a nonmetal) to produce ions through complete electron transfer. The compound formed by this transfer is stabilized by the electrostatic attractions (ionic bonds) between the oppositely charged ions. Moving from the far right to the left on the periodic table, nonmetal elements often gain electrons to form anions with the same number of electrons as an atom...
