Virus-enriched Fractions

Virus-enriched fractions are biological preparations containing a higher concentration of viral particles than the original sample, enabling their detection and analysis. They are produced by processing complex materials to remove unwanted cells, debris, and soluble components, often using filtration, differential centrifugation, or density-based separation that exploits differences in particle size and buoyant density. These fractions support studies of viral structure, replication, infectivity, and host interactions, while improving the sensitivity of downstream assays such as microscopy, molecular detection, and protein analysis. Because enrichment does not necessarily produce a pure virus preparation, appropriate controls and characterization remain essential.

Mitochondria play central roles in the regulation of metabolism and homeostasis. Subtle changes in mitochondrial metabolism that affect organismal physiology could be difficult to detect in whole organism metabolomics studies. Here we describe an isolation method that enhances the detection of subtle metabolic shifts in Drosophila melanogaster.

Source: Zimmermann, S., et.al. Stromal Vascular Fraction-enriched Fat Grafting for the Treatment of Symptomatic End-neuromata. J. Vis. Exp. (2017)This video demonstrates the surgical procedure for neurolysis and stromal vascular fraction (SVF)-enriched fat grafting in the management of symptomatic neuroma. Neurolysis removes adhesion tissue to restore nerve gliding, while SVF-enriched fat grafting is applied around the nerve to create a protective barrier, support nerve healing, and enhance...

We provide a novel strategy to isolate viral replication compartments (RC) from adenovirus (Ad)-infected human cells. This approach represents a cell-free system that can help to elucidate the molecular mechanisms regulating viral genome replication and expression as well as regulation of viral-host interactions established at the RC.
