Wheat Genome

The wheat genome is the complete set of genetic information that directs wheat growth, development, reproduction, and responses to environmental conditions. Bread wheat has a large, complex hexaploid genome composed of three related subgenomes, designated A, B, and D, whose corresponding chromosomes and homoeologous genes can carry similar or distinct versions of important traits. Genome sequencing and annotation help researchers locate genes, compare wheat varieties, and track genetic variation associated with yield, grain quality, disease resistance, and stress tolerance. These resources support marker-assisted selection and genomic breeding, accelerating the development of wheat cultivars suited to changing climates and global food demands.

Single Virus Genomics (SVG) is a method to isolate and amplify the genomes of single virons. Viral suspensions of a mixed assemblage are sorted using flow cytometry onto a microscope slide with discrete wells containing agarose, thereby capturing the virion and reducing genome shearing during downstream processing. Whole genome amplification is achieved using multiple displacement amplification (MDA) resulting in genomic material that is suitable for sequencing.

Zinc Finger Nuclease-Based Genome Editing: A Technique for Modifying Genome in Human Pluripotent Stem Cells by Double-Stranded Homology Dependant Repair Mechanism

This video demonstrates a technique of zinc-finger nuclease-based genome editing in human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs). As hPSCs can potentially be differentiated into various cell types, this technology is helpful for in vitro pathological and pharmacological studies in a patient-specific manner.

Genomics is the science of genomes: it is the study of all the genetic material of an organism. In humans, the genome consists of information carried in 23 pairs of chromosomes in the nucleus, as well as mitochondrial DNA. In genomics, both coding and non-coding DNA is sequenced and analyzed. Genomics allows a better understanding of all living things, their evolution, and their diversity. It has a myriad of uses: for example, to build phylogenetic trees, to improve productivity and...

Genomic Imprinting and Inheritance

Diploid organisms inherit genetic material through chromosomes from both parents. Copies of the same gene are known as alleles. In most cases, both alleles are simultaneously expressed and allow various cellular processes to function optimally. If one of the alleles is missing or mutated, the expression of the other allele can compensate; however, this is not true for all genes. The expression of some genes depends on which parent passed the gene to the offspring, through a phenomenon known as...
