Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia is a condition characterized by abnormally high levels of lipids, including cholesterol and triglycerides, in the blood, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. It develops when lipid production, absorption, transport, or clearance becomes imbalanced; elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol can accumulate in arterial walls, promote plaque formation, and contribute to atherosclerosis. Clinical evaluation typically uses a lipid panel to measure cholesterol fractions and triglycerides, helping guide risk assessment and treatment. Management may include dietary and lifestyle changes, weight control, and lipid-lowering medications, with the goal of reducing cardiovascular events and supporting long-term vascular health.

This protocol presents a detailed approach to replicating a murine model of hyperlipidemia-induced heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The design combines the administration of adeno-associated virus 9-cardiac troponin T-low-density lipoprotein receptor (AAV9-cTnT-LDLR) and poloxamer-407 (P-407).
