Murine Gi Tract

The murine gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the digestive system of mice, a widely used model for studying how intestinal tissues, resident microbiota, and mucosal immunity interact during health and infection. Its epithelial lining forms a selective barrier, while mucus, antimicrobial factors, innate immune cells, and adaptive lymphocytes respond to microbes and help regulate colonization and inflammation. Researchers use this tract to examine pathogen entry and dissemination, host immune responses, microbiome effects, and the performance of vaccines or therapeutics. Because anatomy and immune organization can differ from humans, careful interpretation of murine findings supports, rather than replaces, translational investigation.

2011

A reliable method for the RNA isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa recovered from murine cecums is described. The RNA recovered is of sufficient quantity and quality for subsequent qPCR, transcription profiling, and RNA Seq experiments. This technique can be adapted for RNA isolation of other intestinal microbes.

Generating Urinary Tract Infection Model: A Technique to Administer Uropathogenic Bacteria in Mouse to Develop Urinary Tract Infection Model

In this video, we describe the technique for the intravesical administration of uropathogenic bacteria to generate a urinary tract infection model in mice. This model can be used to understand the spread of uropathogenic bacterial infection within the urinary system and the mechanisms that determine UTI susceptibility.
