Prototype Foamy Virus

Prototype foamy virus (PFV) is a complex retrovirus in the Spumaretroviridae family that infects primates and serves as a model for persistent viral infection and host immune responses. PFV uses reverse transcriptase to generate DNA from its RNA genome, while its unusual replication cycle includes reverse transcription in producer cells and the formation of DNA-containing viral particles before release. Infection can produce characteristic foamy cytopathic effects in cultured cells, although natural infections are generally nonpathogenic. Studying PFV helps researchers examine proviral integration, viral assembly, immune control, and host-virus interactions relevant to immunology and infectious disease research.

The human nervous system handles vast amounts of information by translating sensory stimuli into neural impulses, which the brain processes, creating thoughts expressed through language or stored as memories. The brain also synthesizes information from emotions and memories, which significantly influence thoughts and behaviors. This intricate process creates a comprehensive mental picture. The brain organizes this information using concepts, which are mental categories grouping linguistic data,...

In this article we describe different techniques for microfluidic rapid prototyping platforms. The proposed techniques are based on ultraviolet (UV) sensitive and temperature curing epoxies, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based tubing, wire-bonding, and anisotropic adhesive films. The assembling procedures presented are developed for both one-time use devices as well as reusable microfluidic systems.
