Rat Hind Limb Model

The rat hind limb model is an experimental animal system that uses the limb to investigate localized inflammation, immune responses, tissue injury, or infection in a controlled biological setting. Researchers typically introduce an infectious agent, inflammatory stimulus, or treatment into the limb and assess outcomes such as swelling, vascular permeability, leukocyte infiltration, cytokine production, tissue damage, or microbial burden over time. Because these measurable responses can be linked to defined interventions, the model supports evaluation of host-pathogen interactions, inflammatory mechanisms, antimicrobial or immunomodulatory therapies, and vaccine strategies. Its findings can also guide the development of more targeted studies in immunology and infection.

Hindsight Biases

Hindsight bias leads you to believe that the event you just experienced was predictable, even though it really wasn’t. In other words, you knew all along that things would turn out the way they did. Can you relate this to the phrase "Hindsight is 20/20" now? This text is adapted from OpenStax, Psychology. OpenStax CNX.

Non-Invasive Limb Ischemic Preconditioning in a Rat Model for Neuroprotection

2025

Source: Brandli, A. Remote Limb Ischemic Preconditioning: A Neuroprotective Technique in Rodents. J. Vis. Exp. (2015)This video demonstrates a non-invasive limb ischemic preconditioning protocol in rats to induce systemic neuroprotection. The procedure involves controlled arterial occlusion and reperfusion, triggering cellular stress pathways that release protective factors. These factors enhance resistance to ischemic and metabolic injuries in distant organs such as the brain and retina.
