Smooth Curve

Smooth Curve is a mathematical curve whose direction changes continuously, without sharp corners or abrupt breaks. It is typically described by a differentiable parametrization, meaning that the curve’s position changes continuously with its parameter and its tangent vector varies smoothly; in many contexts, a nonzero derivative also ensures a regular path. This structure allows calculus to define tangent lines, curvature, and arc length reliably along the curve. Smooth curves support modeling boundaries and surfaces in geometry, analyzing motion and trajectories in physics, and generating visually natural paths in computer graphics and design.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Calibration curves are used to understand the instrumental response to an analyte and predict the concentration in an unknown sample. Generally, a set of standard samples are made at various concentrations with a range than includes the unknown of interest and the instrumental response at each concentration is recorded. For more accuracy and to understand the error, the response at each concentration can be repeated so an error...

Functions of Smooth Muscles

2024

Smooth muscles are an important type of muscle tissue that plays a vital role in the involuntary movements of internal organs. For example, they help regulate the movement of food through the gut and the flow of blood through the circulatory system. Function of visceral smooth muscles Visceral smooth muscle is found in the walls of all hollow organs, except the heart, and is a key player in the involuntary movements that drive the functioning of these internal organs. This tissue is arranged in...

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum or smooth ER is a sub-organelle with specialized functions in animal cells and plant cells. It is often associated with the tubule morphology of the endoplasmic reticulum. The ER provides optimal conditions for synthesizing steroid hormones and lipids, such as phospholipids and triglycerides. Traditionally, lipid metabolism was considered to be a smooth ER function. However, there is no direct evidence to prove that rough ER is completely excluded from lipid...
