3d Heart Imaging

3D heart imaging is a set of medical imaging methods that produces volumetric views of cardiac anatomy and motion, enabling clinicians and researchers to assess structures beyond the limits of conventional two-dimensional images. It works by collecting spatially resolved data, often through computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or three-dimensional echocardiography, and reconstructing those measurements into an interactive model. These models can reveal chamber geometry, valve abnormalities, vascular relationships, and changes in cardiac function. In medicine, 3D heart imaging supports diagnosis, treatment planning, procedural guidance, education, and research into cardiovascular disease.

We suggest a Born normalized approach for Optical Projection Tomography (BnOPT) that accounts for the absorption properties of imaged samples to obtain accurate and quantitative fluorescence tomographic reconstructions. We use the proposed algorithm to reconstruct the fluorescence molecular probe distribution within small animal organs.

We describe a protocol to volumetrically image fluorescent protein labeled cells deep inside intact embryonic and postnatal hearts. Utilizing tissue-clearing methods in combination with whole mount staining, single fluorescent protein-labeled cells inside an embryonic or postnatal heart can be imaged clearly and accurately.
