Glioblastoma Resection

Glioblastoma resection is a neurosurgical procedure that removes as much of a glioblastoma tumor as safely possible, aiming to reduce tumor burden, relieve symptoms, and support subsequent treatment. Surgeons use preoperative imaging, intraoperative navigation, and functional mapping to distinguish tumor from critical brain regions, while tissue sampling enables histopathological and molecular diagnosis. Because glioblastoma cells infiltrate nearby brain tissue, complete removal is usually not possible; however, maximal safe resection can provide diagnostic material and may improve local disease control when combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
