Mouse Embryo Imaging

Mouse embryo imaging is the visualization of mouse embryos to examine their structure, cell behavior, and developmental progression, making it a valuable model for studying mammalian development and disease. In live imaging, embryos are maintained in controlled culture conditions while microscopy, often combined with fluorescent labeling and time-lapse acquisition, records changes in cell position, division, and tissue organization over time. These observations can reveal developmental defects, lineage relationships, and responses to genetic or chemical perturbations. The approach supports research in developmental medicine, reproductive biology, congenital disorders, and preclinical assessment of therapies.

Here, we present a protocol to inject ultrasound microbubble contrast agents into living, isolated late-gestation stage murine embryos. This method enables the study of perfusion parameters and of vascular molecular markers within the embryo using contrast-enhanced high-frequency ultrasound imaging.

Ex Vivo Culture and Imaging of Oculomotor Slices from Transgenic Mouse Embryos

This video demonstrates the ex vivo culture and imaging of oculomotor slices from transgenic mouse embryos. The embryos are isolated and embedded in agarose. Using a vibratome, slices containing the oculomotor nuclei and eyes are obtained. The slices are maintained in culture and imaged using a fluorescence microscope.
